NOONAN, NORTH DAKOTA
Noonan, North Dakota is located in Divide County in Northwest North Dakota at the intersection of ND Highway 5 and ND Highway 40. Noonan is a thriving rural town with many businesses. It is home to one restaurant, a bank branch station, hardware store, nursing home, gas/convenience station, grain elevator, two telecommunication companies, and two bars. One of the bars has a steakhouse and the other has an appetizer menu and burgers. Noonan is a large agricultural community and is home to some of the best waterfowl and upland game hunting in Northwest North Dakota.
Noonan has and will always be a border town located just seven miles from the US/Canadian border and 17 miles from Estevan, Saskatchewan. Estevan, known as the Energy City, is bustling with activity from two power plants, oil, mining, and has everything you will need from industrial to household needs.
With a population of just 150 people, Noonan has done well in surviving the last 100 years. Some things have changed over the last 100 years. The large coal mine is closed, Noonan school has closed, oil and gas exploration has come and gone and is here again, but Noonan seems to survive and at times seems to be growing.
The next 100 years will be very interesting for the community of Noonan. A lot has changed in the past 100 years and the next 100 years are sure to be very exciting.
